RemoteApp server starts a duplicate instance of a 32-bit RemoteApp application on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Remote Desktop Session Host role service on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.�
  • You publish a 32-bit RemoteApp application on the computer.
  • You package the RemoteApp application�as a Microsoft Windows Installer (.msi) package and then�install the .msi package on a client computer.
  • A user starts the RemoteApp application and then disconnects the Remote Desktop session.
  • The user reconnects to the session.
In this scenario, two instances of the�RemoteApp application are running on the RemoteApp server.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Remote Desktop Services (RDS) server cannot detect the instance of the application in which the user disconnected the Remote Desktop session. Therefore, the server starts a new instance of the application.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. MANIFEST files and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintain the state of the updated components.
