View products that this article applies to.

Summary

This article explains how to create a hyperlink to a bookmark on the same page and how to create a link to a bookmark on another page.

Creating a hyperlink to a bookmark on the same page is similar to creating a hyperlink to a bookmark on another page. To create your bookmark, follow these steps:

Create Your Bookmark

To convert your text to a bookmark, follow these steps:
  1. Select a word or group of words.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Bookmark.
  3. The text will be the value of the Bookmark Name box.
  4. Make sure that this value has no spaces or symbols. You can change the value of the Bookmark Name box.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Save the page.
The selected text will contain a dashed underline, which indicates that it is a bookmark.

Create a Hyperlink to a Bookmark That Is on the Same Page

To create a link to a specific bookmark on the same page, follow these steps:
  1. Select the text or item that you want to convert to a hyperlink.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Hyperlink.
  3. Click to select the named bookmark that you want to link to from the Bookmark list.

NOTE: Do not select a page from the window.

The URL box should be similar to the following:
    http://#bookmarkname

  4. Click OK.
  5. Save the page.
NOTE: If your bookmark is at the end of the page, the browser may not display it at the top when the link is clicked. To prevent this from happening, add some blank space to the bottom of the page by pressing ENTER several times.

Create a Link to a Bookmark on Another Page

To create a hyperlink to a bookmark that is on another page, follow these steps:
  1. Open the page that contains the bookmark.
  2. On a new or existing page (other than the page with the bookmark), select the text that you want to use as a hyperlink.
  3. On the Insert menu, click Hyperlink.
  4. Click to select the page with the bookmark that you have open.
  5. In the bookmark list, click to select the bookmark that you want to link to.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Save the page.
