Symptoms

In Control Panel, if you click Internet Options, one or more tabs may be missing in the Internet Properties dialog box.

Cause

This behavior occurs because the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel
registry key contains the following value:

"NameTab"=dword:00000001

Note Name is the name of the affected tab. For example, if the Program tab is missing, the registry key contains the following value:

"ProgramTab"=dword:00000001

Resolution

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this behavior, use Registry Editor to remove the NameTab value in the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel
Note
  • You can change the DWORD value to 0 (zero).
  • You cannot resolve this behavior by replacing the Inetcpl.cpl file.
If other tabs in the Internet Properties dialog box are missing, remove the corresponding values from the registry key.
