"530 User cannot login" error message when you try to connect to an FTP site in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.5 on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You create an FTP site by using IIS 7.5.�
  • You enable Client Certificate authentication and Active Directory User Isolation on the FTP site. �
  • You try to connect to the FTP site.
In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
530 User cannot login

Cause

This issue occurs because only Basic authentication is enabled for Active Directory User Isolation.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
