FIX: "ERROR_PORT_NOT_AVAILABLE(633)" error message when the RasDial function is called from an application on a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device to support Dial-Up Networking (DUN) profiles.
  • You add two external modems to the Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device.
  • You run an application that calls the RasDial function to connect the device to a dial-up network through the external modem.

In this scenario, you may receive the following error message when the RasDial function is called:
ERROR_PORT_NOT_AVAILABLE(633)
Note This problem typically occurs when you specify multiple external modems in the registry for a device.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a race condition in the Unimodem model that causes an incorrect port name to be used when the RasDial function is called.

Resolution

Software update information

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows Embedded Compact 7 Monthly Update May 2012. In the "File information" section, the package file name contains the processor type.

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you apply this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:
  • On the Build menu, click Clean Solution, and then click Build Solution.
  • On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace any other updates.
