Some analytic or debug event logs cannot be displayed correctly in Event Viewer

View products that this article applies to.

Summary

Consider the following scenario. You enable one specific analytic or debug event log by using the Event Viewer tool, and the events are generated as expected. However, these events might not be parsed by the Event Viewer tool correctly. Instead a message like below is displayed when you try to view it.

The description for Event ID <Event ID> from source Microsoft-Windows-<Source Name> cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

The message id for the desired message could not be found

For example, this issue can happen if you try to view the Diagnostic log of the Microsoft-Windows-Sync Center program.

More Information

This is the expected behavior. These logs are for debugging purpose only and there is no corresponding message for them, so the Event Viewer tool cannot parse them.
