Folder Redirection feature does not synchronize a file in a redirected folder on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure the Folder Redirection feature to synchronize files automatically on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You have a redirected folder that is displayed as available offline in Windows Explorer.
  • You create a new file in the folder, or you copy a file to the folder, and then the folder goes online.
In this scenario, the Folder Redirection feature does not synchronize the file as expected.

Cause

This issue occurs because the redirected folder is displayed as available offline incorrectly. Client-side caching (CSC) caches the siblings of offline pinned items automatically and transparently. However, when the scope is transitioned offline, the items are not evicted as expected. Therefore, the redirected folder is displayed as available offline even though the subfolders of the folder are not available.
