You cannot configure an item as expected when you process an intercompany sales order for the item in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012:
  • You have multiple companies.
  • You have an item that is configured in Product Builder in one of the companies.
  • You create an intercompany purchase order for the item in another company.
  • A corresponding intercompany sales order is generated for the configured item.
  • You open the intercompany sales order and you are prompted to configure the item.
  • You click Configure line to configure the item.
In this scenario, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Inventory dimension Site is mandatory and must consequently be specified.
Item transactions must be for site site number.
Update has been canceled.

However, the site number is already entered in the line.
Therefore, you cannot configure the item as expected.
