FIX: A memory leak occurs when an NDIS miniport driver is repeatedly created and then deleted in Windows Embedded Compact 7

Symptoms

When you repeatedly create and then delete an instance of a Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) miniport driver in Windows Embedded Compact 7, a memory leak may occur in the NK.exe process.

Note The NK.exe process is the core process of the Windows Embedded Compact 7 system.

For example, this issue may occur when you repeatedly perform one of the following operations to dynamically create and then delete a new NDIS device instance:
  • You call the NdisRegisterAdapter and NdisDeregisterAdapter functions.
  • You send the IOCTL_NDIS_REGISTER_ADAPTER and IOCTL_NDIS_DEREGISTER_ADAPTER NDIS DeviceIoControl requests.

Resolution

Software update information

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows Embedded Compact 7 Monthly Update (April 2012). In the "File information" section, the package file name contains the processor type.

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you apply this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:
  • On the Build menu, click Clean Solution, and then click Build Solution.
  • On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace any other updates.
