Symptoms

When you use the Direct Booking feature of Microsoft Outlook 2000 and your resource accounts are on an Exchange 2000 server, your users may receive the following error message when they try to directly book a resource:
Unknown Error
Unable to directly book the resource.

Cause

The Direct Booking feature of Outlook 2000 requires at least Author permissions when the resource accounts are on a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 computer. When the resource accounts are on an Exchange 2000 Release Candidate 2 (RC2) server, Author permissions do not work; Editor permissions are required.

Workaround

To work around the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section when resource accounts are on an Exchange 2000 RC2 server, use the following to change the permissions:
  1. Log on to the Resource Account with Outlook 2000.
  2. Right-click the Calendar folder, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Change the default permission to "Editor."

NOTE: If you do not want to grant Editor permissions, you must at least set Edit Items to "All," instead of "Own."
  5. Click OK.
