File uploads may fail on large files when using the Remote Web Connect Client on Windows Storage Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

You have a Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 machine.
You use the Remote Web Connect Client to upload a large file (for example a file bigger than 500 MB).
You may receive an error message during the upload:

Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?

If you refresh this page or navigate to another page, you will lose your file selections and cancel this file upload.

Press OK to continue or Cancel to stay on the current page.

Cause

The upload fails because the Remote Web Connect Client encounters a timeout while the upload is still active.

Resolution

To work around this issue, please install the “Easy File Upload Tool” in Windows Storage Server.  Use the “Easy File Upload Tool” instead to upload large files. This tool only works with browsers that support Activex controls such as IE.

More Information

The timeout is a known issue in the Remote Web Connect Client.  The size of the file varies and may be smaller than 500 MB.
