An HTTP URL is passed to an Alternate Content Provider (ACP) for a Distribution Point (DP) even though it is HTTPS-enabled in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure a Distribution Point (DP) in Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager for secure (HTTPS) communications.
  • You distribute the content for an application or package to the DP.
  • A custom client that is built on the Alternate Content Provider (ACP) requests the content locations for the application or package.

In this scenario, Content Transfer Manager passes an http:// URL for the DP that is hosting the content to the ACP.

Cause

This is functionality is by design because all URLs that are passed by Content Transfer Manager (CTM) begin with HTTP whether the DP that hosts the content is HTTPS-enabled or is not HTTPS-enabled. The custom software that is written to use the ACP must honor the flags that are passed back from CTM together with the URL. Specifically, the CCM_DTS_FLAG_INSECURETRANSPORT flag is set when the DP is in HTTP mode, and the flag is not set when the DP is in HTTPS mode.
