PNG image has defects in enhanced metafile with WebBrowser interface


Symptoms

You are using the WebBrowser Control in your application running on Windows 7 to render an HTML page that contains a scaled transparent PNG image. When you convert the page to an Enhanced Metafile (.EMF), white dots appear in the output file in the area where the PNG image should be.

Cause

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the products listed in the Applies-To section of this article.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, upgrade to Windows Internet Explorer 9 running on Windows 7. Alternately, this problem does not occur when using Windows Internet Explorer 8 running on Windows XP or Windows Vista.

More Information

Windows Internet Explorer 9 does not show this issue because the generated EMF file contains one single bitmap representing the html file. In this case the scaled transparent PNG image does not contain any white dots.
