Enterprise Single Sign-On cannot start up when you start the BizTalk and MSDTC service

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have BizTalk Server 2009 or BizTalk Server 2010 server setup is a cluster.
  • You have MSDTC configured as a clustered resource on the BizTalk Server systems.
In scenarios similar to this, you may find that the Enterprise Single Sign-On (ENTSSO) service does not start when the clustered BizTalk Server host group is started or when failing over from one clustered node to the other clustered node.

When this occurs, the BizTalk Server services also cannot start. In addition, the MSDTC cluster resource does not activate.

Cause

A deadlock occurred in service control manager when the Enterprise Single Sign-On service was trying to initialize the DTC service during Enterprise Single Sign-On service initialization.

Resolution

Enterprise Single Sign-On v4.0

Note: Enterprise Single Sign-On (ENTSSO) V4.0 is included with BizTalk Server 2006 R2, BizTalk Server 2009, Host Integration Server 2006, and Host Integration Server 2009.
