View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Assume that you have an application that calls the gethostbyaddrorgetnameinfofunction to obtain the names ofcomputers within the local network. When you run the application on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, the application displaysworkgroup names instead ofcomputer names. This issue occurs after thecomputers that you try to obtain the namesforexperience several sleep and resume cycles. After thisissue occurs, you have to restart the computers to resolve this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because the reverse lookup process returns the workgroup name instead of the computer name when the workgroup name comes before the computer name in the NetBIOS name table.
