Symptoms

Printer connection does not function on a Windows XP machine, when you try to connect to a Windows 8 printer shares using version 4 print drivers.

Cause

Windows XP does not support XPS printing without the XPS Essentials Pack.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, download and install the XPS Essentials Pack, then re-establish a connection to the Windows 8 printer share.
