Store.exe crashes on Exchange Server 2007 servers when a public folder that contains an empty PR_URL_NAME property is replicated in a mixed Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010 environment

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure public folder databases on each Exchange server in a mixed Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment.
  • The PR_URL_NAME property of a public folder is changed to an empty value on an Exchange Server 2010 server.
In this scenario, the Exchange Information Store service (Store.exe) crashes on all Exchange Server 2007 servers when the public folder hierarchy object of the public folder is replicated from the Exchange Server 2010 server to the Exchange Server 2007 server. Additionally, the following events are logged in the Application log of the Exchange Server 2007 servers:

Cause

This issue occurs because the Store.exe process cannot handle the empty PR_URL_NAME property of the incoming public folder replication message.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
2655203 Description of Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3
