You are unable to manage Virtual Machine Manager 2008 from System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager

Symptoms

When trying to manage a System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 server using the System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager 2012 console or PowerShell it may connect one time and fail on subsequent attempts with the following error:

The connection to the Virtual Machine Manager server servername was lost. (Error ID: 1610)

Managing System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 using System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager is not supported.
