An App-V 4.5 package fails to run on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 in a System Center 2012 Configuration Manager environment

Symptoms

You have a Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) virtual application package version 4.5.0.1485 on a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. When you try to run the virtual application, the application does not run and is not inventoried by Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.

Cause

This problem occurs because an App-V version 4.5.0.1485 virtual application is not supported on Windows 7 or on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install App-V 4.6 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or a later version. Then, install hotfix 2645225.
