Critical Updates are updates that should be installed right away. There are normally security issues involved that help keep your privacy, security, and vulnerability to a minimum.
Service packs (SP) combine previously released updates, that helps make Windows more reliable. They can include security, performance improvements and support for new types of hardware. Make sure you install the latest service packs to help keep Windows up to date.
Recommended Updates are updates to various components of the operating system and installed programs that should be installed for proper functionality.
Optional Updates are new features, updates, or Ultimate Extras that are not necessary to install for proper functionality of the operating system or applications. Optional Update cannot be set for automatic installation; you'll have to manually add them to the installation list.
Note: Install the Language Packs (Available for Windows 7 Ultimate) that you would normally use. If you don’t want or need a particular Language Pack, right-click on it and select
Hide Update. (You can always un-hide and install them at a later date.)
