FIX: Memory leak when an NDIS miniport driver is repeatedly created and deleted in Windows Embedded Compact 7

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you create and then delete a Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) miniport driver instance in Windows Embedded Compact 7, this may trigger a memory leak in the NK.exe process.

Note NK.exe is the core process of the Windows Embedded Compact 7 system.

For example, this problem may occur when you repeatedly call one of the following pairs in order to dynamically create and then delete a new NDIS device instance:
  • The NdisRegisterAdapter and NdisDeregisterAdapter functions
  • The IOCTL_NDIS_REGISTER_ADAPTER and IOCTL_NDIS_DEREGISTER_ADAPTER NDIS DeviceIoControl requests
