Command shell program stops responding when you use telnet to connect to a Windows Server 2008 R2-based or Windows Server 2012-based computer that has Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications installed

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012.
  • A Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications telnet service is running on the computer.
  • You start a telnet session that connects to the computer.
  • You open a command shell program in the telnet session, such as Cmd.exe or Perl.exe.
  • You redirect the STDERR output to a file or to the STDOUT stream.
In this scenario, the command shell program stops responding until you press Enter.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
