A GDR update for Visual Studio 2008 SP1 is available to add support for Team Foundation Server 2012 and Team Foundation Service Preview

After you apply the GDR update, the following compatibility scenarios are enabled or improved when a Visual Studio 2008 instance connects to a Team Foundation Server 2012 server:

• User names in Version Control are now displayed as full names (Firstname Lastname) instead of as account names (domain\alias).
• Version Control Property change types are now included in the pending changes and check-in history displays. These types are new in Team Foundation Server 2012.
• Users can now use the new security management web interface.

This update also fixes an intermittent build error that occurs when a large number of build agents run against a Team Foundation Server 2012-based server. When this error occurs, the build fails, and you receive the following time-out error message:
Additionally, a Microsoft SQL Server deadlock occurs on the server.
