You cannot download more than 50 MB or upload large Files when the upload takes longer than 30 minutes using Web Client in Windows 7

Summary

Because of the Default Values for WebDAV in Microsoft Windows 7 you might have Problems with downloading or uploading Files to a WebDAV Share located for example on IIS or Sharepoint Servers, to avoid Error Messages you can customize the Web Client in the Registry.

Scenario 1:

Consider the following scenario.

  • On a Windows 7 Client you map a Share to a IIS Server and you want to download Files with a size bigger than 50 MB.
  • You receive a Error Message like: An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.
Cause: the Default download Limit is set to 50000000 bytes. (50MB)

To fix this problem automatically, click the Download button. In the File Download dialog box, click Run or Open, and then follow the steps in the easy fix wizard.
  • When you follow the easy fix wizard, you need enter a FileSizeLimitInBytes value that is larger than the size of the file that you want to download.
  • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
  • If you’re not on the computer that has the problem, save the easy fix solution to a flash drive or a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

To solve this Problem customize the following Registry Entry:

1.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters

3.locate the DWORD FileSizeLimitInBytes
4.On the Edit menu, click Modify.
5.In the Value data box increase the Value of 50000000 (in bytes)
6.Exit Registry Editor.
7.Restart the Web Client Service

Scenario 2:

Consider the following scenario.

On a Windows 7 Client you map a Share to a IIS Server and you want to upload big Files and the upload takes longer than 30 Minutes.You receive a Error Message like: Error: 0x80070079 The semaphore timeout period has expired"

Cause: the Timeout Value is set to 30 Minutes by default

3.locate the DWORD FsCtlRequestTimeoutInSec
4.On the Edit menu, click Modify.
5.In the Value data box increase the Value of 1800 (Decimal)
6.Exit Registry Editor.
7.Restart the Windows 7 Client

Note:
FsCtlRequestTimeoutInSec has a default value of 1800 seconds. You may increase this setting beyond 1800 seconds to make Vista's and Windows 7 WebClient more compatible with high latency, low bandwidth networks. we suggest increase the valule to 3600 (Decimal).
