The Information Store service does not start as expected in Exchange Server 2003 SP2

Symptoms

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service may not start as expected on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

When you try to start the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service manually, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Could not start the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

When this issue occurs, an event message that resembles one of the following may be logged in the System log in Event Viewer:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Description:
The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7009
Description:
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service to connect.


Additionally, you may be unable to reregister or unregister the Jcb.dll file.

Cause

This�issue can occur if the Jcb.dll file is an incorrect version.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, copy the Jcb.dll file from the Exchange Server 2003 SP2 installation disc to the Exchsrvr\bin folder.
