FIX: "There was no XML start tag open" error when you process 837P messages by using BizTalk Server 2009

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use the HIPAA 5010 schema to process 837P Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) messages in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2009.
  • BizTalk Server tries to process a message that contains an NM1*P3 segment.

In this scenario, the message is suspended. Additionally, an event that resembles the following is logged in the Application log:

Cause

This issue occurs because the BizTalk EDI expects REF CURSOR repetitions about a particular segment in a subloop to be together. The 5010schema should be updated by replacing the xs:all elementwith the xs:choice element.

Resolution

Cumulative update information

The hotfix that resolves this issue is included in cumulative update package 5 for BizTalk Server 2009.
