How to create OEMLogo with background color in Windows 7

View products that this article applies to.

Summary

When you follow the directions in the OEMPreinstallation Kit (OPK) or Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) to add an OEMLogo to the System Properties page of "computer", the background color will not always show if you have an image with a filled in background.

For example, the following test picture:
OEM logo picture with top left pixel still black

Will show in the System properties of "computer" as:

More Information

This behavior is by design; Windows checks the top left pixel for background color and removes that color from the screen.
The way to work around this is to change the color in the top left pixel.

Which would look like this:
Notice top left pixel is white

If you wish to preserve symmetry, you may want to replace the whole top row of pixels and center the text with that in mind.

If you do use other colors (instead of just black and white) you can inadvertently remove the color of the text you are using. For example, if I put the same color in the top left pixel as I used for the lines in the following example, the lines will not have any color (typically showing as white)

For example (top left pixel is the same color of blue as the lines):
Adding color to the logo

In "computer" System properties the Logo will show as:
Blue is gone, Yellow is still present
