A TIFF file that is created by using the fax printer is not sent correctly in Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Fax Server role and the Desktop Experience feature on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • In the Fax Service Manager, you clear the Include banner check box on the Outbox tab.
  • You create a Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) file by using the fax printer, and then send it out as a fax by using the fax service.
In this scenario, the TIFF file is not sent correctly. Additionally, the fax service reports a fatal error.

This issue occurs because of an issue in the fax printer driver.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
