SKU information for Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Workgroup changes to "Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard" after you install Service Pack 1

Symptoms

Branding identifiers that are located inside the Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Workgroup operating system may change to "Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard" after you install Service Pack 1 (SP1). Resolution

Storage appliance manufacturers should install SP1 in the factory before they load the edition licensing package (KB982048) for Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Workgroup. The branding strings can be safely ignored and do not affect the operation or the licenses of the Windows storage appliances.

If you run Winver.exe, the correct edition graphic appears. Users can also view the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion registry key to determine the edition name, if necessary.
