View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure an item-level targeting security group filter in Group Policy Preferences in a Windows Server 2008-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based domain.
  • You add a user who is a member of a global group to the local administrators group.
  • You select the Remove this item when it is no longer applied check box on the Common tab in Group Policy Preferences.
  • The settings in Group Policy Preferences are applied when the user logs on, and the user is added to the local administrators group.
  • You remove the user from the global group.
In this scenario, the user is not removed from the local administrators group.
