Selected subfolder is highlighted unexpectedly when you select the parent folder in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You expand a folder that contains subfolders in Windows Explorer on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You select a subfolder in the right-side pane.
  • You select the parent folder of the subfolder in the navigation pane.
In this scenario, both the parent folder and the subfolder are highlighted. However, the parent folder should be highlighted and the subfolder should be shaded

Note If you are using the Windows Classic theme, when you select a file in a parent folder in Windows Explorer and then select the parent folder, both the file and the parent folder are highlighted. However, the parent folder should be highlighted and the file should be shaded.
