FIX: Some PCI devices may not work after you apply Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Monthly Update August 2011

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You run a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3-based image that uses the hive-based registry.
  • You have more than one PCI network adapter installed on the device.
  • You apply update 2562821 that is included in Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Monthly Update August 2011 on the device.
  • You restart the device.

In this scenario, you find that some network adapters may not appear in the Network and Dial-up Connections control panel. Additionally, those network adapters do not work.

Cause

This issue occurs because the I/O space resources are not cleared before the PCI bus driver reads the devices on the PCI bus. Therefore, some PCI device drivers may be unable to communicate with their devices.
