Paging File()\% Usage counter always shows 0 in perfmon

Symptoms

On Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 SP2 system, start perfmon and add the counter Paging File \ % Usage. Observe the data presented for the individual paging files, note that it is always 0.

The correct usage will be displayed under _Total.

Workaround

It is recommended that users who experience this issue either use the _Total counter to determine paging file usage, or use Windows Server 2008 R2 to monitor the affected systems.

More Information

This performance counter works as expected in Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. The counter Paging File \ % Usage does not display the correct usage for individual paging files.
