Uninstall Office Server Extensions

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To uninstall Office 2000 Server Extensions without uninstalling FrontPage Server Extensions, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click the Install/Uninstall tab.
  4. Click to select the Microsoft Office 2000 Server Extensions check box, click the Add/Remove button, and then follow the instructions to uninstall the program.
  5. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  6. On the Tools menu, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  7. Click the Name & Location tab, and then type ows.dll in the Named box.
  8. Click to select the Local hard drives check box in the Look in box, and then click Find Now.

    Note the location of ows.dll, for example, C:\Program files\Microsoft Office 2000\Office.
  9. Click Start, and then click Run.
  10. Type command.com in the Open box, and then click OK.
  11. Change the directory to the location of the ows.dll file, type regsvr32.exe /u ows.dll, and then press ENTER.
  12. Click OK when the RegSvr32 dialog box appears with the following message:
    DllUnRegisterServer in ows.dll succeeded.
  13. Start the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
  14. Click Configure Server Extensions on the Task menu.

    NOTE: The Server Extensions Configuration Wizard guides you through the process of configuring the server extensions.
  15. If you are prompted for a collaboration database or any other OSE-related information, follow these steps:
    1. Click Cancel to cancel the configuration.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    4. In the Registry Editor, click Find on the Edit menu.
    5. Type ows.dll in the Find what box, and then click Find Next.
    6. Click Delete on the Edit menu to delete the ows.dll value.
    7. Click Find Next on the Edit menu.
    8. Repeat steps f and g until all the ows.dll values are deleted.

      NOTE: There should be about 10 values.
    9. Repeat steps 14 and 15 as necessary.

With Office Server Extensions installed on a Web server, workgroups with access to the server can more easily publish, navigate, and search for documents on their internal Web site. OSE includes ALL FrontPage Server Extensions functionality.
