FP2000: Error Message: Cannot Update the Database

Symptoms

When you attempt to submit a form to a Microsoft Access database, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Cannot update the database.
Error Description: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Cannot update.
Database or object is read-only.
Error Number: -2147467259
Error Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers

Permissions on inetpub\web1
You receive a similar error message for all databases on your server.

Cause

This behavior can occur if you have recently upgraded the operating system on your computer, and Web site security has not yet been tightened.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
  2. In the left pane, right-click the server that you want.
  3. Point to Task (or All Tasks), and then click Check Server Extensions.
  4. When the message appears, click Yes to tighten security, and then click Close.
