FP2000: FrontPage Server Extensions Error Messages in Event Viewer

When you modify permissions through the Microsoft FrontPage client, you may receive error messages similar to the following in the Event Viewer:

This behavior can occur when the group Guests is manually added to the content directory and is then assigned No Access permissions to the content directory.

The Guests group contains the account IUSR_Computername, which is a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) anonymous account.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
2. Browse to the content directory.
3. Right-click the content directory, and then click Properties in the Shortcut menu.
4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Security tab, and then click the Permissions button in the Permissions pane.
5. Select the group Guests in the Directory Permissions dialog box, and then click the Remove button.
6. Click OK in the Directory Permissions dialog box.
7. Click OK in the Properties dialog box.

To modify permissions through the FrontPage client, point to Security on the Tools menu, and then click Permissions.

NOTE: Administrators should always manage FrontPage permissions through the FrontPage client.
