FP2000: You Receive an Error Message When Submitting a Form

Symptoms

When you submit a form in Microsoft FrontPage 2000, you may receive the following error message:
FrontPage Error
User: Please report details to this site's webmaster.
Webmaster: Please see the web server's application event log for more details.
The following error message may then appear in the event log:
Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: http://servername - Error #20002 Message: Cannot open file "path to content directory\_private\form_results.txt" for writing.

Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: (OS Error #13 Message: Permission denied)
NOTE: This error message does not appear with FrontPage 2000 on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.

Cause

This behavior can occur when a form is created that submits to a particular file, and that file has been deleted, moved, or renamed.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use any of the following methods:

Method 1: Recalculate Hyperlinks

  1. Start FrontPage 2000.
  2. Open the web that you want.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Recalculate Hyperlinks.
  4. In the prompt that appears, click Yes.

Method 2: Rename the Form File

  1. Start FrontPage 2000.
  2. Open the web that you want.
  3. Right-click the form.
  4. On the shortcut menu, click Rename.
  5. Type the new name for the file.

Method 3: Remove Permissions from FrontPage 2000

  1. Start FrontPage 2000.
  2. Open the web that you want.
  3. On the Tools menu, point to Security, and then click Permissions.
  4. Click the Users tab.
  5. Select IUSR_computername (if it is listed), and then click Remove.
  6. Click the Groups tab.
  7. Remove Interactive, Network, and Everyone (if they are listed).
  8. Click Apply, and then click OK.
