You experience a delay if you double-click an Excel worksheet on a Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2-based HPC cluster

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have an HPC cluster that is based on Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2.
  • You install the HPC Pack 2008 R2 for Workstations or HPC Pack 2008 R2 for Cycle Harvesting application on a workstation node that is running Windows 7.
  • You double-click a Microsoft Excel worksheet in Windows Explorer on the workstation node.
In this scenario, you experience a delay that can take up to five seconds until the Excel worksheet is opened.

Note This issue does not occur if you open the Excel worksheet by using the Open command on the File menu in Excel.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the update on all workstation nodes.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. To apply this hotfix, you must be running a HPC Pack 2008 R2-based HPC cluster. Additionally, you must have HPC Pack 2008 R2 Service Pack 3 installed.
