The DBCS characters of a certificate name are not displayed correctly if KB 2518295 is installed in Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Active Directory Certificate Services server role on a computer that is running a non-English version of Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You enable the Certification Authority (CA) and Certification Authority Web Enrollment role services on the computer.
  • You install the following update on the computer:
    2518295 MS11-051: Vulnerability in Active Directory Certificate Services Web Enrollment could allow elevation of privilege: June 14, 2011

  • An end-user tries to acquire a new CA certificate by using web enrollment.
In this scenario, the Double-Byte Character Set (DBCS) characters of the certificate name are not displayed correctly on the View the Status of a Pending Certificate Request webpage on the enrollment site.

The issue occurs because a cookie value is encoded incorrectly two times.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must be running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Additionally, you must enable the Certification Authority and Certification Authority Web Enrollment role services.

The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
