You cannot select fields in Access 2010 after you open a .zip file in an OLE Objects field on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a database by using Microsoft Access 2010 on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You create a table that contains an OLE Objects field for each record in the database.
  • You create multiple records and insert multiple .zip files in the OLE Objects field of each record.
  • You double-click one of the OLE Objects fields to open a Windows Explorer window that displays the files that are included in the .zip file.
  • You try to select any other fields in the table.
In this scenario, the input focus remains on the OLE Objects field. Additionally, if you double-click another OLE Objects field, the Windows Explorer window displays the files in the .zip file from the previous OLE Objects field.

Note To recover from this issue, close and then open the table. However, this issue occurs again if you repeat the last two steps in the scenario.
