You cannot use hot keys to switch between input languages

Symptoms

You use hot keys to switch between input languages on your computer. Sometimes, the hot keys do not work.

Resolution

To troubleshoot this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • If this problem only occurs when you use Office word, use Method 1.
  • If this problem occurs when you use different programs, use Method 2.


Method 1: Change the setting in Word

  1. In Word 2010, click File, and then click Options.



    If you are using Word 2007, click the Office button, and then click Options.



  2. Click Advanced, and then select the IME Control Active check box in the right side window.


  3. Restart Word.



Method 2: Change the settings in the system


If the problem also occurs in other programs, such as in Notepad, there might be conflict hot keys. 


To resolve the problem, change the hot key settings in your computer system. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the language bar, and then click Settings.

  2. In the Text Services and Input Languages window, click the Advanced Key Settings tab. Select an action, and then click Change Key Sequence.

  3. Define keys, and then save the settings.
