View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You create a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application that targets the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. The application uses the TextFormatter.FormatLine method to format and render text into an image.
  • You run the WPF application.
In this scenario, an ArithmeticOverflow exception occurs intermittently. Additionally, the generated image lacks some text or contains some text that is rendered incorrectly.

Cause

This issue occurs because of an error in the DirectWrite API that the .NET Framework 4.0-based WPF application uses to render the text into an image.
