A SCOM 2007 SP1 server does not send out alerts when certain issues occur in an Exchange Server 2007 organization


Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 organization. The organization is monitored by a System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) server.
  • The SCOM 2007 SP1 server has Exchange Server 2007 Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007 SP1 installed.
  • The Exchange Best Practice Analyzer (ExBPA) tool runs on the Exchange Server 2007 servers.
In this scenario, the SCOM 2007 SP1 server does not send out alerts when certain issues occur, such as an expired certificate.

Cause

This issue occurs because the EventID tags that link the ExBPA rules and the SCOM rules are missing in the ExBPA configuration file.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:
2608656 Description of Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3


After you apply the fix, SCOM will alert administrator with the following events when ExBPA detects upcoming or actual certificate expirations on the Exchange Server 2007 servers:



2444 – SSL Certificate will expire in x days - Warning

2445 – SSL Certificate will expire in x days – Critical

2446 – SSL Certificate has expired – Error
