You reach a site that uses a standard SharePoint template when you browse to the URL for a public-facing site

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You browse to the following website:
    http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com
    Note In this web address and in the following web addresses, YourDomain represents the domain that you use for your Microsoft SharePoint Online site collections.
  • You are directed to one of the following websites:
    • http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com/sitepages/home.aspx
    • http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com/pages/forms/allitems.aspx
    • http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com/default.aspx
  • The website loads

In this scenario, you notice that the page displays a SharePoint template instead of the standard public-facing site template.

Cause

This behavior occurs for one of the following reasons:
  • The Wiki Page Home Page Feature is enabled on the public-facing site.
  • An incorrect home page is set as the default home page.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps, depending on the website to which you are directed.

If you are directed to http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com/sitepages/home.aspx:
  1. Browse to the following website:
    http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com/_layouts/managefeatures.aspx
  2. Deactivate the Wiki Page Home Page feature.
  3. Browse to the public-facing site URL.
If you are directed to http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com/sitepages/home.aspx and if the steps that you followed earlier did not resolve the issue, or if you are directed to http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com/pages/forms/allitems.aspx or to http://YourDomain-web.sharepoint.com/default.aspx:
  1. Open the public-facing site by using Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2010.

    For more information about how to use SharePoint Designer together with Office 365, visit one of the following Microsoft websites:
  2. On the left menu, open the Site Objects section, and then select All Files.
  3. Click the Pages folder.
  4. Right-click default.aspx, and then click Set as Home Page.
  5. Browse to the public-facing site URL.
