GDI objects are not displayed correctly on multiple monitors in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You connect multiple monitors to a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • A user remotely connects to the computer by using a remote application that uses a mirror driver (for example, Remote Assistance).
  • You run an application that uses the EnumDisplayMonitors function to display some Graphics Device Interface (GDI) objects.
In this scenario, the GDI objects are not displayed correctly.

Cause

This issue occurs because the EnumDisplayMonitors function may provide a corrupted hdc parameter if a mirror driver is loaded.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
