"Stop 0x000000AB (SESSION_HAS_VALID_POOL_ON_EXIT)" error when a client logs off from a Remote Desktop Services session in Windows Server 2008 R2

When a client logs off from a Remote Desktop Services session on a remote desktop server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2, you may receive a Stop error message on the remote desktop server that resembles the following:


When this issue occurs, all Remote Desktop Services sessions on the remote desktop server may also stop responding.

This issue occurs because some session pool memory that has the Gadb tag or the Gh2 tag in the Win32k.sys file has leaked.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
