Output is garbled when you print data or documents by using a service in Windows Vista, in Windows Server 2008, in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a computer that is running one of the following operating systems:
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
• You use a service to print some data or documents to a print queue on the computer.
• The data or documents include private fonts.

In this scenario, glyphs that are used by private fonts are not printed correctly and are garbled.

This issue occurs because private fonts are not embedded in the Windows Enhanced Metafile (EMF) stream when you use a service to print data or documents.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

To work around the issue, clear the Enable advanced printing features option on the affected print queue.
