Symptoms

When users attempt to log on to their mailboxes during a Move Mailbox operation on the server, you may see the following entry in the application log:
Event ID: 1022
Type: Error
Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox
Description:
Logon Failure on database "[storage_group_name]\[mailbox_store_name]" - Windows
NT account [domain_name]\[user_name]; mailbox
/o=[organization_name]/ou=[site_name]/cn=[recipient_container_name]/cn=[user_name].
Error: -2147221231

You may see the following error codes in the description: ecLoginFailure, ecMailboxInTransit, or ecWrongServer.

This Event ID may be repeated many times. The application event log may fill up with these events if users who are being moved are trying to log on.

Cause

Users tried to log on to their mailboxes during the move process. The users that were being moved could not log on.

Resolution

By design in Exchange, users cannot log on to their mailboxes while their mailboxes are being moved.

Inform all users not to attempt to log on to their mailboxes while their mailboxes are being moved.
