Symptoms

Greek characters on a Web page may be displayed correctly, but may not be printed if you use any of the following Hewlett-Packard (HP) Printer Control Language (PCL) printer drivers:
  • HP LaserJet 4Si
  • HP LaserJet 4Si MX
  • HP PCL Color LaserJet 5/5M
  • HP LaserJet 5MP
  • HP LaserJet 5P
The Greek characters may be printed as question marks (?) instead of the correct characters. This behavior can occur if you have selected the Auto-Select or Greek (Windows) option from the Encoding command on the View menu.

Cause

This behavior occurs because the PCL printer driver cannot print Greek characters from within Internet Explorer.

Workaround

When you print Greek characters, use the HP PostScript driver for the HP LaserJet 4Si/4Si MX PS and HP LaserJet 5P/5MP PS printers. You may also want to contact Hewlett-Packard to inquire about obtaining updated PCL printer drivers.
