Error message when you open a report definition in Microsoft Management Reporter: “The operation could not be completed due to a problem in the source system”

Symptoms

When you open a report definition in Microsoft Management Reporter, you receive the following error message:

The operation could not be completed due to a problem in the source system.


If you check the Event Viewer, you will find this message:

Cause

This error message occurs because you have nonconsecutive years or periods, or by having overlapping periods in Microsoft Dynamics GP. 

To check the periods and years in Microsoft Dynamics GP click Microsoft Dynamics GP menu, point to Tools, point to Setup, point to Company, and then click Fiscal Periods.

Resolution

Management Reporter does not support nonconsecutive years, periods, or overlapping periods.  For more information about how to change periods in Microsoft Dynamics GP, see KB article 871647 .
